Ending the Streak

Ending+the+Streak

Boys and girls swimming simultaneously defeated Leonardtown in a meet for the first time in history to end their winning streak. The meet was held at St. Charles High School on January 13, 2017, where the girls swim team overpowered Leonardtown enough to win, ending the Raiders 153-meet win streak. The streak was maintained for roughly 16 years. The victory is an incredible achievement for this year’s team, who had pressured Leonardtown and their streak in previous years. The boys swim team has defeated the Leonardtown boys swim team before, but this is the first-time the girls managed to win after coming so close for years. Not only did the girls win, but so did the boys, which left the team very appreciative and excited. Julia Rivenburg (12th) says, “I feel that our team was ready to go at any moment, we were pumped and excited and ready for a victory. It wasn’t until that final relay that it hit us, that we realized we did it, we ended the streak.” Coach Rivenburg says “I think our team swam fantastic.” Being the last swim season for several record breaking seniors, this is quite an accomplishment.
