JV Softball First Impressions

This year is another season for the junior varsity softball team to play their hearts out. The team had their first game against Lackey Chargers on Monday at home. The excitement increased as the Eagles stepped onto the field to start out the top of the first inning in the outfield.

The Lackey Chargers were out for a short time at the top of the first inning scoring only one run. The Eagles then made their way into the batter’s box. The team went on to score 7 runs only after a mercy inning rule. During this inning, the Eagles took several walks which led to the stealing of bases and getting runs in with a few hits here and there.

The next inning, the Chargers were shutdown with no runs after solid defensive play by North Point. After a solid top of the second inning, the Eagles went on for 7 runs and another mercy inning rule. Lackey pitcher had 4 walks alone after the bottom of the third inning letting North Point score 4 runs. North Point pitcher, Nisha Lathrop (’18) and the team only allowed one run for the entire game.

At the top of the fourth inning with bases loaded, Lackey Chargers were still upset with an amazing strikeout for the third out. The game was called before the start of the bottom of the fourth inning for a mercy rule since the score was 18-1.

Player Desiree Salaver (’17) who even though was not able to play this game said, “I think we’ve improved a lot since last year’s season after winning our first game.” Another player, Samara Brown (’17) also did not play but said, “I feel we came together as a team to get the win.” This is a monumental game because the North Point softball hasn’t won like this in two years.
