A Great Book For More Than Thirteen Reasons

Looking for a great read? “Thirteen Reasons Why” by Jay Asher is one of the greatest young adult books out there. Focusing on a mystery, a suicide, and ominous tapes from a dead girl, it will keep you in suspense for the entire ride.

Asher has also written “The Future of Us”, but “Thirteen Reasons Why” is a #1 New York Times and international best seller. The Chicago Times has called the book “eerie, beautiful, and devastating.” While the themes of the book may be a bit dark for some readers, it is sure to captivate all and keep you on the edge of your seat.

The story begins with Clay Jensen receiving a package of tapes with recordings from Hannah Baker, a girl her recently killed herself. The tapes tell her story, and what lead to her death. It is from Clay’s point of view, as he listens to the tapes on an old Walkman and follows a map she provided him with key points of her life.

Throughout the story, Hannah’s eerie retelling of her life leaves you haunted and unsure of what will come next. Hannah’s life is a rollercoaster that keeps the reader anxious and almost hesitant to continue out of fear of what will happen next. The book will leave you in tears and wishing you could somehow change Hannah’s fate.

Even Clay’s reactions to the tapes will give you chills, as well as the things he finds along the ways. The story going so in depth and gives off the theme that what you say and do, can truly impact someone’s life. Clay and the other characters in the story learn this the hard way, not knowing what they did to Hannah to push her towards her death until they listen to the tapes.

“Thirteen Reasons Why” is a chilling and haunting story that all will love, and recommend to their friends.
