Interview with Derrick Hollie – Track & Field

Kyla Mitchell, Editor

I got the opportunity to interview Derrick Hollie who is a junior at North Point High School and a part of the 2019-2020 track and field team.

What are some of yours and your team’s achievements throughout this season?

We were beating teams that we thought we would have trouble with which were Gonzaga, McNamara, and Seton. We had beat a bunch of private schools by about 40 points at the Ed Bowie Invitational. Our 4 x 800 relay team was undefeated until the most recent meet where our entire team faced some competition.

How do you prepare for a meet?

I always eat a good meal with carbs and other nutrients and make sure I’m hydrated throughout the day. I try not to get nervous before the race but once I get on the line all my attention gets drawn to running and performing to the best of my ability.

What do you think about when you run?

While I’m running, I think about my endurance and strength so I am able to finish the race strong. I stay focused on what is in front of me and I don’t look back.
