The Last Song

The Last Song

Nikki Williams, Contributing Writer

The Last Song is movie whose screenplay was written by the renowned and esteemed writer Nicholas Sparks; author of The Notebook, Dear John, A Walk to Remember.

The story follows a seventeen year old girl named Ronnie (Miley Cyrus) as she travels from New York to Georgia, unwillingly, to stay with her father for the summer.  Mom (Kelly Preston) drops Ronnie and her younger brother Jonah (Bobby Coleman) off with their father (Greg Kinnear) and warns him just what he’s getting himself into; how Ronnie isn’t the same girl she used to be before their divorce.

Through out the movie, Ronnie does her best to make her Dad miserable, staying out late, talking back, and throwing all of his mistakes right back in his face.

She meets her love interest, Will Blakelee (Liam Hemsworth) and is annoyed and frustrated by him at first, but it doesn’t take long for him to break through her tough exterior, and for her to open up to him.  The rest of the movie is filled with romantic moments and love, touching father-daughter scenes, and of course heartbreak and sadness.  (I mean it’s a Nicholas Spark movie).

Miley Cyrus does an excellent job portraying a teenage girl with a dark past, and the chemistry between her and Liam Hemsworth is undeniable.  If you’re a lover of teenage romance and stories of people finding out who they are and their place in this world, then I suggest you high-tail it out of here right now and buy yourself a ticket to see The Last Song!
