Empire is back! More drama, more plot twists, and more passion. On March 30, 2016 Fox returns with yet another season of the Lyon Dynasty. “Empire” was introduced to television by Lee Daniels and Danny Strong on January 7, 2015. This show is about Lucious Lyon, played by Terrence Howard, who is a self-created Hip-hop artist and also the CEO of Empire Entertainment. Lucious has been diagnosed with ALS, and is expected to die in the next three years. Lucious and his ex-wife, Cookie Lyon, have three sons, and Lucious is deciding which son to give his company to when he is gone. At the end of season 1, Lucious gives his middle son, Jamal, the Empire, after being informed that his ALS was misdiagnosed.

Rayeesha Hewlett (’18) responded, “I watch “Empire” because it’s very entertaining. It’s catchy to the audience because it has real life situations, and I really enjoy that.” Keoni Gibson (’18) mentions, “I like watching “Empire” because it’s funny to me. The drama and all the crazy things make me laugh. I think of “Empire” as a black “Telenovela”.” Zianna Norman (‘18) concludes, “This season is going to be amazing! So many plot twists, and drama is going to happen.

Many students think of this show very highly, but for other students “Empire” is just another show. Jacadi Tillman (’18) recites, “I don’t watch “Empire” because it’s foolishness. All the drama is just too much” Annaliese Grove (’18) recalls, “I don’t watch “Empire because I don’t have enough time. School, homework and sports consume a lot of my time and I try to focus more on those things then television.” Along with Annalise, Hannah Gates (’18) adds, “I’m always so busy with school, homework, and sports that I don’t have time to get into the show.”

Empire comes on every Wednesday night at 9/8c on Fox, and most North Point will be tuned in.
