Australian singer Sia has gained a lot of popularity in recent years, especially in the United States. One of her most recent singles reached and stayed at number one among the Hot 100 for several weeks. The singer’s full name is Sia Furler and she started her career in Australia before her group was disbanded. She released her debut studio album OnlySee in Australia before moving to London where she was the lead vocalist for British duo Zero 7. Quin Seepersed (12th) was very surprised to hear that she was Australian and said, “She is a great artist! Her songs are amazing and meaningful.” In 2000, Sia signed to Sony Music’s sub-label Dance Pool and released her second studio album Healing Is Difficult. Sia was not happy with the promotion of the record and signed to Go! Beat and released her third studio album Colour the Small One. Sia struggled to gain a larger audience among the mainstream listeners. She first started to gain popularity from when she focused on songwriting for other artists and had several successful collaborations. Some of the more famous ones include: “Titanium” (with David Guetta), “Diamonds” (with Rihanna), and “Wild Ones” (with Flo Rida). Sia took advantage of the exposure and released her sixth studio album 100 Forms of Fear which debuted atop the U.S. Billboard 200. One of her most breakthrough singles that appears in the album is “Chandelier” which was highlighted through her trilogy of now famous music videos starring child dancer Maddie Ziegler.

Now in the present, Sia released her seventh studio album This is Acting, which held her first number one hit “Cheap Thrills”. In the 2016 year, Sia released both “Cheap Thrills” and “The Greatest” which were very successful. When students were asked whether or not they have actually seen the face of Sia, 9 out of 10 said no because she always covers her face. Jackoby Wilson (12th) said that he thought she did not want to show her face and had not seen it. Sia’s face has been seen numerous times but her album cover art consists of other people and designs. Sia is currently on the Nostalgic for the Present Tour, which incorporates performance art elements for which she has received an array of accolades, including ARIA Awards, and and MTV Video Music Award.
