New Years Resolutions

Some of the most common new year’s resolutions include things like lose weight, save money, and get healthier. The reason why these are so common is because they are seemingly easy, manageable, resolutions that anyone can achieve in a short amount of time. However, something we all know is that their isn’t many people who actually complete their resolutions by the end of the year. One of the most common reasons people never complete their New Year’s resolutions is that they get overzealous when we make them and then we cant commit. Saying you are going to loose 30 pound by the middle of the year might be unrealistic for your lifestyle and not possible. It is also common for people to make more than one resolution. Having a multitude of resolutions, you have to not only keep track of but commit to, can make it hard for you to complete them by the end of the year.

Another reason it is hard to complete resolutions is because of poor planning. Some people will through themselves into their resolutions directly on January 1st however, because of this you don’t properly plan what you need to do to complete your goals. There is a lot you need to take into consideration when planning your new years resolutions. If you are planning on losing weight, what type of gym to you plan on going to? Will you need a personal trainer? What type of diet are you going to go on, and are you going to go on a diet at all? When planning your resolutions make sure you are specific as possible and follow through on those plans.

Another reason for why our resolutions are hard to complete is because the lack of support. Without support, it is realistically hard to complete anything. Support can come in many forms and while paid coaches, trainers, and assistants are great, free help is still help. If you are trying to raise you grades, ask a friend at school to help you study. You could also ask your family to help you study at home. It’s important when trying to reach your goals that you reach out for help when it is needed.

Finally, it is important to track and record your progress. Resolutions take time, so tracking your progress is integral to actually recognizing what makes you successful. Tracking goals is a great way to hold yourself accountable. If you are trying to lose weight, keep it simple and track things such as you daily food, monthly measurements, and week weight. Write everything down in a notebook or use an app or spreadsheet. Another benefit of goal tracking is to keep you motivated. By having a visual representation of your results form the previous month, you are more likely to stay motivated and keep going.

While resolutions are hard to keep, with the proper motivation, you will definitely be able to complete your goals. While it won’t exactly be easy, it is important to pay attention to what works and what doesn’t and pay attention to the advice people give you. Start thinking about what you want to be different next year and work hard to achieve it!
