Homecoming is a loved school dance by many high school students. The day before homecoming is the homecoming game that takes place after school. Football games are full of fun, concessions, and the excitement of cheering for your school. At North Point the students in SGA come together to decorate the gymnasium according to the theme each year. This year’s homecoming theme is a “Night in Rio!”
For a lot of people, this could be their first year going to homecoming or maybe you’re feeling stressed about all the preparations from what to wear, to trying to meet with friends. To help relieve some of this tension for students, I have asked three seniors to give some advice and tips for homecoming taking place on the 11th of October. Since seniors have been around for homecoming for four years, they can give the best input on how to make sure you have a fun and memorable night!
The first question I asked was, “If you had to give underclassmen a tip about how to prepare for homecoming, what would you say?” The second question was, “What are some things you like about homecoming and the build up for it?”
Lana Anglo is a member of SGA, the Student Government Association. As a member, she has firsthand experience with the preparations and hard work that goes into homecoming each year. When giving tips, Lana thought back to her own experiences and said, “I would recommend planning your homecoming outfit early so you don’t have to buy anything last minute. Also dressing to match the theme can make the experience more memorable.” Moving on to the next question, she emphasized how exciting pep rallies are. “I love the pep rallies and the vibe; I love being able to dress up and take pictures with my friends!” Lana’s responses help to highlight how unforgettable homecoming is when you are prepared and aren’t overwhelmed about anything.
The second senior I talked to was Londen Braswell, who is the current Vice President of the senior class. To the first question Londen answered, “Advice I would give is to save money. It’s homecoming and there are 4 of them, you don’t need the most expensive dress or suit. Also plan ahead of time so you don’t stress yourself out, since homecoming is supposed to be a fun memory.” When asking about her favorite memories from homecoming, she mentioned, “I love the events, and the school spirit shown during homecoming and spirit week. Especially during the pep rally and each class showing school spirit, plus the competitive fun.”
To end the interviews, I spoke to the President of the senior class, Danyel Akers. When thinking of what to say to underclassmen, she said, “I would say make sure you don’t do everything last minute. Have everything ready so by the time the dance itself comes, you can just get dressed and enjoy the day rather than rushing.” After I asked the second question Danyel took some time to think about the 3 other homecomings, she’s experienced, “I like the excitement leading up to homecoming, the pep rallies, the game, the spirt week, and planning the dance out. It’s so fun to hear what everyone has in mind for homecoming.”
Now that you have all the tips you need for a great homecoming. I hope you remember not to wait until the last minute for anything you may need. Remember to come to the game on the 10th in your full camo, and I hope to see you all at the dance on Saturday, the 11th.
