Keeping their Eye on the Prize
The crowd goes wild as the players take the floor. With the cheerleaders cheering, the players from the bench shouting last words of encouragement to their teammates on the floor, this was the scene just before the referee blew his whistle and the ball was launched into the air.
The boys’ game opened with an explosive start. Both teams fought bucket for bucket, keeping the point gap narrow. North Point senior guard Ochae Dejene led the team in points Friday night with a total 18 points towards their final score. Also, North Point Senior forward Devin Allen was the second highest scorer that night with 12 points toward North Point’s total. Although there was excellent play by the Eagles, they fell short of a victory Friday night with a final score of 67-57. “Coach told us to keep our heads in the game. We played hard defense and we will continue to work hard on our executions.” (Thomas Tobias ‘15). Although it was not a victory, the North Point team held their heads with pride Friday night.
The Lady Eagles also faced off against the Lady Wolverines as well Friday night. They fought till the end with good rebounds and game changing steals. It was a good game for points for several players on the team. North Point senior Brianna Hodges led the team in points Friday night with 15 points total and had a good free throw shooting game as well. Also North Point Junior Valencia Vastey had the second highest point total with 10 points. Although there were several great plays by the Lady Eagles, they also feel short of a victory with the final score of 56-53. “I think we definitely hustled and rebounded very well,” says Hodges (’14) “I definitely think we need to work on consistency and just playing hard all 4 quarters.”
As a regular supporter of the North Point basketball teams, Desiree’ Satchell (’15) enjoys cheering for big games such as this. Her favorite part of cheering for the game is when the crowd really gets into the cheers because it really gets everyone excited and makes the game fun. If you want to join the fun, there will be another game against Westlake Friday February 7th here at home.
