Lady Eagles Undefeated Against Rivals
On Wednesday, January 31st the Eagles took on Westlake’s Wolverines in game two of their two game season series against their rivals. In their first seeing of Westlake, North Point dominated as they devastated the opposition with a victory of 64-17. The Wolverines looked to get revenge as they had the home-court advantage. Coming into this game, the Wolverines were undefeated with the crowd in their favor. Six victories at home and all wins have been by fifteen points or more.
Westlake started strong as they had the upper hand leading into the second quarter. Ahead by two possessions, Westlake turned over the ball off a bad pass. Synia Johnson (20’) took the ball down court and converted the turnover into points on the other end. Westlake soon lost the advantage as they turned over the ball in back-to-back possessions in which Johnson scored in both. Kennedy Davis (20’) knocked down the mid-range jumper, which sparked an 11-2 run from the Eagles later in the second quarter.
To take the lead late in the second quarter, Camille Robinson (18’) went to the line and hit two for two, putting the Eagles up by a possession. While the Wolverines were trying to fight back, Davia Jenifer (20’) ripped it from the opposition and finished on the fast break, putting North Point up by five points. Jenifer would lead the Eagles in scoring with fourteen points. “Doing what I can to get my team the win,” Jenifer commented as she spoke on her contribution to the team.
The Wolverines would outscore the Eagles in the last quarter, but it was already too late. The Eagles held the Wolverines to under ten points in both the first and second quarters. “It was a well-fought competitive game from Westlake,” Johnson said after leading the Eagles in two point field goals made. With this victory, North Point’s record improved to an impressive 13-4. The Eagles’ next game will be against Lackey’s Chargers on Valentine’s Day; make sure to cheer on North Point’s girls basketball team.
