Keeping Pace: GSA

“We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided.” –J.K. Rowling.

The Gay-Straight Alliance, or GSA, supports young people in starting, strengthening, and sustaining relationships between students of all sexual orientations and creates safe environments in schools for students to support each other and learn about homophobia, transphobia, and other oppressions.

Mrs. Leitzel explained, “The Gay Straight Alliance is a student-created club that preaches social and cultural acceptance no matter the race, gender or sexual orientation of a student.  It is about unity and diversity and the desire to spread the awareness of such to other members of the student body.”

GSA meets every 1st and 3rd Tuesday in room M115. Mrs. Leitzel says, “Students gather to discuss different ways to increase awareness of the importance of diversity and social acceptance of all peoples without judgment or prejudice.” There is no requirement to join GSA, just show up and sign in. GSA right now is in the process of planning a bake sale in order to raise money for materials such as bracelets, posters and t-shirts in order to show support for the cause and increase awareness/membership.  There are already close to 30 members of GSA.
