Erykah McCray is a senior at North Point High School. Currently she is taking three choir classes and is interested in textiles and apparel. She has a love for fashion. After high school she plans to major in Architecture and Interior Design at a 4-year university. Currently she is looking forward to graduation and what college will bring into her life. She is interested in the creative aspects of life through cosmetology and arts and crafts. She works at a summer camp where she interacts with young children, giving her experience at a young age.
Q1: What artist got you through high school, and what song would you say describes your year?
A: “The artist that got me through High School was Ariana Grande because of how beautiful her voice is. The song that describes my senior year would be her song Safety Net, because it creates a safety net for me after hearing all the negative things people said about senior year.”
Q2: What are your plans after high school and why?
A: “After High School, I plan on going to a 4-year college at Morgan State, majoring in Architecture. I want to experience the college life and freedom on my own. Being in an art major can teach you discipline and a hard-working work ethic with will teach me valuable skills.”
Q3: What advice do you have for underclassmen?
A: “Make sure you manage your time well. Don’t procrastinate and wait to the last minute. Always put your best foot forward. Try looking at colleges now or figuring out what you want to do with your future.”
Q4: What is your favorite memory from high school?
A: “My choir concerts are some of my favorite memories. It’s always fun listening to the multiple choirs and seeing everyone come together. Singing for the people is always nice.”
Q5: What’s the biggest lesson high school has taught you?
A: “The biggest lesson high school has taught me is to make sure you manage your time well. Before I didn’t manage my time well and it allowed me to learn that my actions have consequences. So you have to make sure you’re making the right decisions.”
Q6: How do you feel from freshman year to now?
A: “I feel so different. Freshman year I didn’t feel that pressured. But now I feel pressured because there are so many things to do for colleges. I felt like I was naïve to a lot of things back then. Now I feel more aware of things.”
Q7: What is your favorite memory from before high school? (K-8th)
A: “My favorite memory was recess. Everyone was just having fun. It was a chance to see your friends or people you didn’t have a class with. So much used to happen during recess, and it just made it such a fun memory to look back on.”
Q8: What is the hardest thing about high school?
A: “The hardest thing about high school is just figuring out life. You’re still trying to figure out who you are and what you want to be.”
