On Tuesday, March 6th the North Point gymnasium was lined with tables set up for various companies from the community. The job fair was open to the seniors of all Charles County high schools in the morning. The fair was here to show seniors the various employment and education opportunities available to them. Present were companies from various industries, such as technology, law enforcement, cosmetology, and entertainment.
Companies included Charles County Public Schools, Sam’s Club, Starz2be, Apprenticeship MD, Presidio IT Technology Company, Bennett Career Institute, Bladensburg Barber School, Massage Envy and many more. Some companies were on site to tell about their job positions available at the moment, whereas other companies were informing students about what they look for when hiring.
The job fair was organized by Mrs. Condo. The companies were found through the local community. “We branched out to council members that service our Science, Technology, and Industry (STI) programs,” said Condo.
The fair also had all the military recruiters in attendance: the Navy, Marines, Air Force, and National Guard. This was very helpful for many students who were thinking about the military as their post-high school. “I liked that recruiters from every branch were here,” commented Mary O’Grady (’12).
Some companies on site that were there told of current job opportunities. The Sherriff’s Office was in attendance and was giving out information on their cadet program and opportunities as a correctional officer. “The cadet program allows high school and college students to work to become police or correctional officers,” explained Officer Jeremy Hebb.
Many students had positive feedback about the job fair and all the information they got from attending. “It helped show me the various opportunities available to me for my future,” said Kevin Rudaski (’12).
