Mock Trial Making History

Many love the suspense of court TV shows like Law and Order or even real court room shows like Judge Judy. The 14 students on the Mock Trial team get to experience court first hand, just like the show. The Mock Trial team prepares like they were on a real court case. After a long and hard fight against Parkdale High School, the mock trial team earned a victory that led them to making history for the team.
The team should feel proud of their accomplishments this year. Together they have met after school to come up with the best strategies to win in the mock trials they compete in. Their hard work has paid off. This year the mock trial team has
1. Became the first North Point team to make it to the semi-final rounds in Mock trial
2. Became the second team from Charles County to make it to semi-finals ever
3. They are the only team from Charles County to make it this far in Mock trial this year
The team is very excited for what more they can accomplish this year. In the semi-final round North Point will compete against last year’s winners, Eleanor Roosevelt High School, a tough competitor. This year’s trial is based off the highly publicized case, the Ferguson trial, and can be hard to argue. But moving on to the semi-finals is a big accomplishment that the team is both excited and nervous to face. Caitie O’Donnell (15’) has been on the team since her freshmen year and says “it’s been my goal since freshmen year”, in regards to making it to semi-finals.
Tuesday could be another history in the making for the mock trial. If they win the case against Roosevelt, the team will make it to the finals, and accomplish three more goals:
1. Becoming the first North Point team to make it to finals
2. Become the first team in Charles County to make it to finals
3. Going further than any team has ever before
This year’s Mock Trial members are:
1 .Luciano Benjamin (’17)
2. Robert Carmona (’16)
3. Denyce Hagans (’16)
4. Marissa Hapner (’17)
