North Point Cheer Looks for a County Title
It is always a discussion on what Cheerleading is. Is Cheerleading actually a sport? Many boys, especially the younger they are, will claim that Cheerleading isn’t a sport. But girls will be the ones to defend that it is indeed a sport, and also explain why it’s a sport. Charles County has several cheer teams who strive to be the best at the Freshman, JV, and Varsity levels. North Point High School’s Cheerleading teams have been some of the best in the county and in Maryland. This Wednesday, October 26th, the Charles County Cheer Competition will be held at 6 pm at North Point. North Point’s cheer teams have worked very hard to get to this point. They put in the time for tumbling, dance, and builds. Hours and hours are taken to get everything right. Sophomore Gracie Bowie talked about why she is most looking forward to this competition, “I’m looking forward to competing with my team today! Our team is really close this year and I am excited to compete with my sisters!” During this event, the schools will battle it out to see who the best is in Freshman, JV, and Varsity. North Point has won Freshman, JV, and Varsity several times in the last few county competitions. Overall, the competition is a very long day of performances, but one performance itself isn’t actually that long. There are so many little things that people don’t see or understand about Cheerleading. Injuries, deductions, and disqualifications can come at anytime. North Point is led by Seniors Mia Coates, Tamia Ward, Sam Jones, Eve Moten, Glori Beverly, and Mia Moten. Mia explained how she is feeling knowing that this will be her last county competition and her team is in pursuit of another County Title. ” Well my teammate just got hurt so I am hoping that she will be okay and can pull through in the routine. Knowing this is my last county competition makes me a little nervous. I’m trying to stay positive about everything, but I have faith in this team and I know we’ll pull through and win this,” she says. North Point will look to continue their success against Charles County teams. The Eagles are known for their quick but extremely exciting routine that gets the crowd on their feet. The Eagles have had routines in the past that were talked about a long time after the competition. Don’t miss this competition Wednesday night at North Point High School!
