Auditions are the highlight of any theater kids’ year at North Point. It marks the sign that theater season has started. And that is certainly the case for this year. North Point’s audition for our annual fall play took place on September 4th. The play we are doing this year is Trap by Stephen Gregg. When auditions happen, you choose a 1–2-minute monologue or get a script from the theater teacher Ms. Silvestro. One by one in front of everyone you perform your monologue and Ms. Silvestro decides the cast list based on people’s performances, figuring out who would best fit where. Everyone at auditions are remarkably supportive and will clap for you as you go on stage. There was so much talent in the audition room that call backs had to be posted to happen the next day.
The next day call backs really highlighted people’s stage presence and energy. They read scripts from the play “Trap” by Stephen Gregg; some were performed with partners and one solo cold read. This process is just to help Ms. Silvestro to figure out and finalize the cast list. The best thing about auditions and callbacks is that you can appreciate and admire everyone as an actor. At the end of the callbacks, Ms. Silvestro said that figuring out the cast list would be hard because they were a talented cast. That Friday the cast list was posted. The first rehearsal starts September 10th, and our first tech day starts that Wednesday.
If you’re interested in theater, give it a shot. They need as much tech as we can get. You can work on lights, sound, construction, costumes, and props as tech for this fall play. Tech day starts September 11th. Be sure to stay tuned for our upcoming fall play “Trap.”
