Eagles Preparing for Take -Off

The fans go wild as the North Point girls varsity basketball teams take the floor. As the Junior Varsity basketball team holds up collages of the seniors, the drum line pounded a steady beat to get the crowd excited. As this was the Eagles Senior night, North Point celebrated seven seniors including Taylor Facen, Ashley Henderson, Brianna Hodges, Koren Joyner, KanDeon Niravanh, Haley Oliver, and Montana Wigfall. The seniors were called out one by one, escorted by their loved ones, and given a basket full of gifts, including large posters with their photo on it.

The Eagles took on the Leonardtown raiders that night, and what started off as a tight game for the eagles in the opening quarter, quickly turned into another eagles win. Leonardtown had a few good offensive plays, but their defense was no match for the Eagle’s offense. Late in the first quarter the eagles picked up their offense with several fast breaks by Valencia Vastey (’15) and Jessica George (’15).

What also kept the eagles alive early was the strong play by senior Brianna Hodges, who did not miss a foul shot during the half. She also led the team with fifteen points followed by Jessica George (’15) and Valencia Vastey (’15) with eleven points.  Hodges (’14) had several good takes under the basket, and fiercely battled the Leonardtown defense. Senior Koren Joyner, returned to the floor, making her first appearance the season. She was welcomed with a big applause from the crowd as she joined her team mates on the floor.

Overall, the Eagles played a very good game, beating Leonardtown 72-23.  It was a great way to celebrate the seniors and their last regular season home game, as North Point Eagles.
